Mongol Rally 2015

Update One. Yes. One.

Finally. Internet. Unrestricted, unfiltered, untampered, internet. I think. So, what’s happened so far… A quick recap, stories and legends that have happened.

This will be a text-based update, I will then try to add pictures once I find out how to upload them.

I’ll try to break up the updates I type today into sections and schedule them so you get them on a daily basis…. finger’s crossed it works!

So without further ado…

Day 0 – Drive to Goodwood on Saturday the 18th of July, 2015

On Saturday, we had some last minute stress and had promised other teams to help them, so were running late. I built a roof rack out of an old shopping trolley (very proud of that one) and built 5-6 sump guards (mostly for Micra K11s).

All that done, and some emergency packing (and forgetting of things) and we set off. Only later did we realize that in our rush we packed a broken air compressor, THREE sleeping bags and two tents. Ah well.

We eventually got to Goodwood, having found that bluebird likes cruising at 60mph, deals with 65mph and can’t do 70mph. Also, she doesn’t like hills. At Goodwood, we have some fun with Jacob’s minibike before it broke. Doh! Then set up tents, got shouted at for setting up a tent in the wrong area (didn’t move it, no way bluebird was sleeping alone!) and signed in. The party was fairly strange with what seemed like Czech folk music blaring, a unicord dancing with a half-naked man and people getting shot with T-Shirt cannons. Odd… Yes.

We were due to meet with our sponsors PunctureSeal (http://www.punctureseal.com/) but, sadly, due to the last minute issues we faced getting to Goodwood that wasn’t possible. Our apologies to PunctureSeal (and to other teams who didn’t get a chance to get their tires treated, I’m typing this from Dushanbe in Tajikistan and we haven’t had a single tire issue, despite running the tires at 10psi for two days!)

End of this update… next one coming tomorrow!
